How Should You Wash Your Hair?
1. Understand the importance of shampooing frequency.
Shampooing frequency should be adjusted based on the nature of the scalp. Oily scalp produces a lot of secretions, which can clog hair follicles and cause acne or hair loss if not cleaned properly. You can usually wash it once a day. Dry scalp sebaceous glands do not secrete enough, and frequent shampooing can aggravate desquamation. Neutral scalp wash every other day or every other day as needed.
2. Learn when to wash your hair.
You can wash your hair in the morning or at night, but not drying it before going to bed or going out can cause a headache or a cold. Furthermore, you cannot wash your hair after eating or drinking in order to avoid dizziness, vomiting, or indigestion.
3. Select the proper shampoo
People with oily scalps produce acidic sebum; try using an alkaline shampoo to balance the oil and remove dandruff. In contrast, dry hair should avoid using alkaline shampoo because it will remove too much oil, and apply conditioner after washing your hair. People with a neutral scalp should use shampoos that are nourishing and moisturizing.
4. Adjust the shampoo's temperature
Too cold shampoo can cause vasoconstriction, resulting in insufficient blood and oxygen supply to the hair follicles, exacerbating hair loss. Too hot water can harm the sebaceous glands and scalp, causing scalp sensitivity and promoting dandruff formation. Shampoo water is typically 38-40°C in temperature.
5. Learn how to properly wash your hair.
To avoid residual silicone oil on the scalp and clogging pores, avoid applying the conditioner directly to the scalp and instead apply it to the hair more than two centimeters away from the hair root. Furthermore, if your scalp is itchy, avoid scratching it with your fingernails to avoid damaging the scalp barrier. Simultaneously, bacteria left on the nails can enter the body through the wound, causing skin infections and, in severe cases, intracranial infections or life-threatening infections. Massage gently with your fingertips to distribute shampoo evenly on the scalp to avoid physical irritation.
